AJ Delap

I bring more than 28 years of experience in Nevada government and public policy, beginning with a distinguished career at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) and continuing as a registered lobbyist in both the public and private sectors.

For the final 13 years of my law enforcement career, I served in LVMPD’s Office of Intergovernmental Services as a Government Liaison as an in-house lobbyist reporting directly to the Office of the Sheriff under Sheriff Doug Gillespie and later Sheriff Joe Lombardo (currently serving as Governor of Nevada). In that role, I represented one of the nation’s largest police departments before the Nevada State Legislature, state regulatory agencies, and local governments.

I have been a registered lobbyist during every Nevada legislative session since 2009, with direct involvement in the passage and defeat of legislation across a broad range of policy areas, including criminal justice, civil and constitutional law, taxation, traffic and transportation, mental health, education, public lands, firearms, marijuana legalization, and health care.

Following my retirement from LVMPD in November 2022, I transitioned into the private sector as a lobbyist with The Griffin Company, representing clients during the 2023 and 2025 legislative sessions. My work included high-profile and complex matters involving the relocation of the Oakland Athletics to Las Vegas, transportation network companies, education policy, housing, criminal justice reform, gaming, mining, transportation, and statewide business development.

In addition to state-level advocacy, I have extensive experience working with Southern Nevada local governments, including numerous Clark County Code amendments and City of Las Vegas ordinance changes, as well as sustained engagement with the City of Henderson and the City of North Las Vegas.

Simply put, I have worked across virtually every level and area of government in Nevada. I understand how policy is shaped, how decisions are made, and how to move complex issues from concept to enactment—effectively, ethically, and with credibility built over decades.

I was raised in a rugged mining town in southern Colorado, but Las Vegas has been my home since 1989, where I also pursued my studies at UNLV. I’m passionate about a wide range of sports—an avid skier and cyclist who chases fresh powder and open road alike, and a keen river rafter who seeks the rush of moving water. Above all, I treasure time spent with family and friends, where moments become memories that matter most.
